Using date fields from multiple tables in a record template

I am using airtable to manage feature launches. I have a Release Plan table that contains all of the features and a Launch Task table that contains all of the associated tasks. Tasks are included in the Release Plan table as linked records. In my Launch Tasks table, I have three date fields: draft due, review due, and completion. In my Release Plan table I have one date field: release date.

I am trying to use a record template to create a feature and auto-populate the subtasks. Within this template, I’d like to set relative dates for each task. However, I need to set those dates based on the date fields in the Launch Task table and those are unavailable because the template is at the Release Plan record level. I tried adding the date fields from the Launch Tasks table to the Release Plan table as lookup fields, but they still don’t populate in the record template.

Is there anyway to link the date fields from one table to another to be able to use both in a record template?

Thank you!

Welcome to the community, @chelgesen!

I’m not sure if you can do what you want to do with Record Templates, but record templates are very similar to automations.

So I would probably just create an automation to do it. You would pre-create a bunch of formula fields in your base that equal all the variable dates that you may need, and then your automation can insert the results of those formula fields into your records.

Thank you! I’m still trying to get the hang of airtable and is very helpful!
