Using Airtable to create an approval workflow with electronic signatures and PDF generation

If you’ve ever wanted to create an approval workflow using Airtable that includes electronig signatures and automatic creation of PDF files, you could always piece together different tools to make that happen.

For example, you could piece together a solution that combines DocuMint or PDFFiller, along with DocuSign and Make. Or, you could combine eSignatures.io with Make.

But I wanted to see if there was a way to combine everything together with just one platform, and it turns out that you can do all of the above with just one tool: Fillout’s advanced forms for Airtable!

On this episode of the BuiltOnAir podcast, I show how to use Fillout to create the ultimate approval workflow for Airtable!

Hope you enjoy! If you’d like to hire the best Airtable consultant to help you with anything Airtable-related, please feel free to contact me through my website: Airtable consultant — ScottWorld

Hi Scott, I’m new to the community. I’m actually building a product and had created a signature system using Fillout and Airtable. However, I abandoned it because it added too much complexity to my product.

I’m building a system in Airtable I can sell to a niche community one-time. My current signature guidance to them is to use SignNow because it’s only $15/mo/company (unlimited users) and they can simply drop in a link in their Airtable, click a button and the client gets an email telling them to sign and pay. Simple, clean and affordable without adding complexity to my software or my workload.

However, I’m concerned they’ll see this as a negative because of the added manual entry necessary on their end. My competitors all have e-sign capabilities and I’d like to compete on this front.

The main point of my system is they own their data and workflow and can use their own e-sign and payment providers without going through middlemen that up charge for those services. That also means that they don’t need me once they’ve bought it, assuming it’s simple and straightforward to use.

More to the point, I’m looking to see if there’s a solution out there that would work within Airtable and not cost my customers any additional money for other services. I’ve built page designer docs that their clients could sign but it certainly falls short of the industry standards for legal document signing.

There are only a few variables they would need populated into their agreements but there are numerous agreement templates that would need to be made based on what their client orders.

I hope all of the is is clear. Would be great to have a conversation to see if this problem can be solved.

Best,

Jon

Welcome to the community, @jajinga!

I’m not 100% sure that I understand your question, but I think that you’re looking to fully automate some sort of an eSignature system with Airtable, but without the help of external services that cost additional money.

Unfortunately, at this time, that would not be possible. You would be required to use external platforms if you want to automate an eSignature system.

However, many of these platforms can be very low cost or free to use.

For example, Make is free for up to 2 automations and up to 1,000 operations per month, and you can automate Make to work with any eSignature app.

And while SignNow is relatively cheap, eSignatures.io is likely even cheaper at only 49 cents per contract.

Hope this helps!

Hello Scott,

It’s doable with Typeflow.us (core feature: generate PDFs based on Airtable data). Typeflow has its form builder that integrates with signature (still in beta).
